CLEAN CORPORATE CITIZEN DESIGNATION, FORD MOTOR COMPANY-ENGINE MANUFACTURING DEVELOPMENT OPERATIONS (EMDO), ALLEN PARK, WAYNE COUNTY. The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has received an application for Clean Corporate Citizen (C3) designation from Ford Motor Company-Engine Manufacturing Development Operations, Allen Park, as provided for under Administrative Rules R324.1507 to R324.1511: Clean Corporate Citizen Program. A decision on the C3 designation approval or disapproval will be made by September 18, 2001. The C3 program provides incentives for improved environmental protection. Regulated establishments that have demonstrated environmental stewardship can receive C3 designation and public recognition for their efforts and are entitled to certain regulatory benefits. Singh Development Company, Ltd. is requesting a modification to a conservation easement held by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality to facilitate the development of a proposed road crossing that would serve as an access point for the phase 2 development of Main Street Village, Novi, Michigan. The proposed modification would impact a total of 0.21 acres of wetland and create approximately 0.30 acres of wetland within the subject property. PROPOSED ADMINISTRATIVE RULES FOR PART 201, ENVIRONMENTAL REMEDIATION, OF THE NATURAL RESOURCES AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION ACT, 1994 PA 451, AS AMENDED. These rules bring the rules for the state cleanup program under Part 201 up to date with statutory amendments enacted in 1995 and 1996. The rules provide for land use-based cleanup criteria; set forth algorithms for calculation of generic cleanup criteria; explain requirements for remedial action plans and other stages of response activity; clarify which types of response activity require DEQ approval; clarify affirmative obligations of liable persons; and update rules that deal with program administration, such as the inventory of contaminated sites, public funding for the cleanup program, and alternate water service. A public hearing will be held on August 28, 2001, at the Forum Auditorium, Michigan Library and Historical Center, 717 West Allegan, Lansing, Michigan 48909. The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality is proposing to issue a Section 401 Water Quality Certification (Certification) to the Indiana Michigan Power Company, a subsidiary of the American Electric Power Company, for their Mottville Hydroelectric Project located on the St. Joseph River in St. Joseph County. This Certification contains operating, monitoring, and reporting requirements necessary to meet Michigan’s Water Quality Standards, and is a prerequisite to obtaining a license from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. The Land and Water Management Division will hold a public hearing at the Big Rapids Middle School Multi-Purpose Room, 500 North Warren, Big Rapids, Michigan. The hearing will be for Permit Application Number 01-54-0017-P, submitted by Great Spring Waters of America, Inc., 110 Elm Street, Suite 3, Big Rapids, Michigan. The applicant proposes to place a pair of six-inch water pipelines across 8 streams and 18 wetlands. The approximately 12-mile long proposed pipeline begins in Section 31 of Martiny Township and extends southeast to Section 26 in Mecosta Township. The pipeline will transport spring water from a series of boreholes and route it to a proposed bottling facility near the 8 Mile Road exit of US-131. ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS: WALKING THE EMS PATH. The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality’s Environmental Assistance Division and 27 co-sponsoring organizations are offering training on Environmental Management Systems (EMS). The workshop explains how a company can implement an EMS and improve operations, avoid costly environmental mistakes, increase employee participation, and enhance public image, while potentially improving its financial bottom line. DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM SHORT COURSE, GULL LAKE, MICHIGAN. The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality’s Environmental Assistance Division and the Michigan Section of the American Water Works Association present this three-day course. The course will provide water utility personnel basic information related to distribution systems. Topics include water mains; bacti sampling and analysis; pipeline appurtenances; safety, distribution system rules; tapping, service lines and meters; cross connections; system operation; maintenance and special problems; winter maintenance; pumps, motors, and well houses; and chlorination. Cost: $175 which includes all meals from lunch on the day of arrival through lunch on the day of departure, coffee service, two nights lodging, and course materials. Topics include basic math review, rules, safety, phosphate/corrosion control, iron removal, ion exchange softening, operation, miscellaneous treatment, wells, and hydraulics and pumps. 9th ANNUAL GREAT LAKES REGION WASTE REDUCTION & ENERGY EFFICIENCY WORKSHOP, BURTON MANOR, LIVONIA, MICHIGAN. The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality’s Environmental Assistance Division, along with 25 trade associations, companies, utilities, and governments, is once again sponsoring this event. Dave Kling, Acting Deputy Director at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics, opens the workshop and presents "New Directions in Pollution Prevention." The remainder of the day’s agenda packs information into concurrent sessions within five tracks: Design for the Environment, Reuse and Recycling, Energy Efficiency, Pollution Prevention, and Environmental Management Systems. Participants can select sessions within any track, maximizing their chances of obtaining information most critical to their needs. They can also sign up for Iowa’s Mobile Outreach for Pollution Prevention (MOPP) equipment demonstrations, including antifreeze reclamation units, a solvent still, a hot soap degreaser, an alternative solvent parts washer, used oil filter processor, alternative cleanser parts washers, a paint gun washer, and other waste reduction equipment. In addition, a resource area will be open during breaks and for a half-hour after lunch where trade associations, utilities, educational institutions, government, and nonprofit organizations will have displays and be available to answer questions. Cost: $50, which includes continental breakfast, lunch, entrance into displays, MOPP equipment demonstrations, and workshop materials. .
